Infrastructure

Infrastructure is the basic physical structure needed for the operation of any organisation, society, enterprise, or country as a whole. The term typically refers to the technical structures that support a society, such as roads, water supply, sewers, power grids, telecommunications, and so forth.

Infrastructure broadly being classified as Hard and Soft; Hard consisting of Road and highway networks, including structures (bridges, tunnels, culverts, retaining walls), signage and markings, electrical systems (street lighting and traffic lights), edge treatments (curbs, sidewalks, landscaping), Railways, Canals, Navigable waterways, Seaports, Airports and Mass transit systems; and Soft consisting mainly physical assets such as highly specialized buildings and equipment, as well as non-physical "systems" such as the body of rules and regulations governing the various systems.

The exposures are related to express highways, sea links, viaducts (metro rails and roads), bridges etc., each of these having varied degree of risk exposures relating to collapse of an under construction bridge/ viaduct/ tunnel, road construction related exposures like flooding, caving of roads due to seepage.
